History

The Department of Fashion Design and Management was established in 1980 as the Department of Farm Management Home Economics Strand of the Taiwan Provincial Pingtung Institute of Agriculture.

After the school was reformed into the National Pingtung Polytechnic Institute in 1991, the department was split into the Department of Farm Household Economics and the Department of Applied Science of Living.

When the school was renamed National Pingtung University of Science and Technology in 1997, the two departments were recombined into the singular Department of Applied Science of Living before it was reformed into the Department of Fashion Trends and Management in 2001 as a four-year university program.

In response to further developments in modern society and nurture multifaceted competency and industrial competitiveness among prospective students, the department was renamed once again as the Department of Fashion Design and Management in 2009.

The master’s program was then established the following year.
